With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Alex Golovchenko in his 84th year at his London home on December 17th.
Devoted husband of Rima (Rayew) for 65 years and dedicated father to sons Eugene (2014) (Michelle) of London and Alexander (Marianne) of Orillia. Loving Deda to grandsons Christopher (Leslie) of Toronto, and Kyle (Monica) and Sasha (Kyla) of London. This year, he also welcomed two great-grandchildren, Oscar and Mia.
Alex is survived by brothers Igor (Violet) Golovchenko and Guy Golovchenko, and brother-in-law Igor (Irene) Rayew. He will be deeply missed by many in the extended Golovchenko and Rayew families, especially nieces and nephews Anna, Susanna, Larissa, Tanya, Greg, Phillip, Matthew and Shawna. Alex is also fondly remembered by in-laws Maureen and Brenda Golovchenko.
Applying his strong work ethic, Alex served with honour as a sworn officer of the London Police Department for 30 years. During his lengthy career, he rose to the rank of sergeant and influenced a generation of young police officers following in his footsteps.
Alex was a man of faith and a gifted singer. Demonstrating his service, he helped to build London's Russian Orthodox Church of Christ the Saviour and served as its choir director for several decades. Always willing to help, Alex was often called upon to assist others through church, work or in the community.
Due to current Covid circumstances, a private family funeral has already taken place. Arrangements handled by O'Neil Funeral Home (www.oneilfuneralhome.ca), where condolences may be sent. Many thanks to Reverend Vladimir Morin for his spiritual support. In memoriam donations may be made to London's Russian Orthodox Church of Christ The Saviour or a charity of your choice.
