Algirdas Jonas Dragunevicius

The man, the myth, the legend, and his family's rock. On July 4th, 2019, peacefully and surrounded by his loved ones, Algirdas Jonas "John" Dragunevicius in his 95th year was called home.

Devoted husband of Irena Dragunevicius (Albrechtas). Beloved son of Elena and Petras Dragunevicius (deceased). Brother of Birute, Aldona, and Ona Dragunevicius (deceased). Treasured father of Saulius Dragunas, Vitolis Dragunas, Ruta Dragunevicius (Warren), and Ray Dragunevicius (Mina). Cherished Grandfather of Ryan, Andrew, Emily, Marcus, Aïda, Lina, Lucas, Jada, and Great Grandfather of Skylar. He will be remembered by his family as Tevas, Diedukas, and Tetukas, and by his extended relatives and close friends as Uncle John, Dede Gaga, Mr. D., John D., Dr. A. Gunevicius, and John MacDragunevicius.

John was a humble man of action and believed in living a life of kindness, sincerity, and integrity. A devout Catholic and proud Lithuanian and Canadian he led by example, followed through on the Scripture's teachings in his every day life, and held an unwavering sense of empathy, understanding, and loyalty to his loved ones. He never failed to see the beauty and God in all of nature and he respected all beings, great and small, with the utmost tenderness.

A man ahead of his time, John began practicing meditation, yoga, and mindfulness in the 1930's. He exuded an unshakeable sense of patience that was intrinsically engrained and a virtue that so very few are able to achieve in their lifetime.

John lived in Lithuania until the Soviet oppression in 1944, finally immigrating to Canada in 1949. He married his beloved Irena in 1952 where they owned and operated a tobacco farm in Mount Brydges, Ontario with his parents. Along with his wife and family, he moved to London, Ontario in 1966 where he worked in Research and Development at Northern Electric, after to be named Nortel Networks Ltd., until his retirement in 1990. A true innovator, John was a member of the Bell Pioneers. He and his team registered many patents that in some cases are still being sited today.

The cornerstone, axis, and anchor to his family, John's soul was a rarity of the purist form and he remained gracious and dignified until the end.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Dr. Rashmi Bhalla, Dr. Kirk Hamilton and his team, Paramed - especially Christine, the V.O.N., and the L.I.H.N.

The family will be receiving visitors from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2019 in St. John The Divine Parish. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 13th, 2019 at 10:00 a.m at St. John the Divine Catholic Parish, 390 Base Line Road West, London, Ontario. Interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
