Anele "Nellie" Ausrotas

December 24, 1922 — November 20, 2023

London

On Monday November 20th, 2023 Anele (Nellie) Ausrotas (Née Gramele), 100, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Marian Villa in the Mount Hope Centre for Long Term Care.

Just over a month from her 101st birthday, she lived a remarkable life as a centenarian, and was blessed to have outlived so many of her friends and loved ones. Nellie (as she was better known) was a devoted wife to her husband and soulmate Jurgis (also known as George) for 72 years.

She was a loving mother to her daughter Kristine Young (Brian, predeceased), and son Richard Ausrotas, as well as her daughter-in-law Stina Ausrotas. She was a proud and doting Nana to her treasured grandchildren, Kimberley (Glen, predeceased), Tricia (Corey), Bradley, and Kristi (Robert), as well as her great-grandchildren Fiona and Evangeline.

She lived for her family above all other things, and tended to hers as lovingly as her flowers. Nellie was born on 24 December 1922 in Jestrakis, Lithuania to Mary and Stanley Gramele (Grimalauskas), whom she now joins in eternal rest. Nellie immigrated to Canada at 14, arriving in Timmins, Ontario. It was here that she would discover her lifelong passions for harvesting the native mushrooms and blueberries of Northern Ontario, as well as for sewing and alterations; the fruits of which the family would enjoy for many years to come. It was while working as a seamstress and tailor that she would meet her future husband, whom she married in 1948. The family would move to Nilestown in 1957, and she would reside there until 2021, before entering long term care.

She will be remembered fondly and missed terribly by all who knew her, but especially her dear friends Grace (Carl, predeceased) Andersen, and Doris (Paul) Mortensen. Nellie always delighted in hosting friends and family, and for many years her home was the site of an annual picnic for the local Lithuanian community.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the many tireless care givers on the 2nd floor at the Marian Villa, who looked after Nellie with love and kindness.

Visitors will be received in the O'Neil Funeral Home, 350 William St., London on Tuesday, November 28th between 9 and 10 a.m. The funeral service will then be conducted in the St. Dismas Chapel of the O'Neil Funeral Home at 10 a.m., followed by interment in St. Peter's Cemetery, London.

For those wishing to express love and condolences, donations can be made in Nellie's name to two causes that were near and dear to her heart: the Alzheimers Society Southwest Partners (alzswp.ca) and the Humane Society of London & Middlesex (hslm.ca).
