Peacefully on Saturday, February 27th, surrounded by family, Anna "Annie" (Madziak) Gorman at the age of 98 and three-quarters. Beloved wife and best friend of the late Frederick "Ted" Gorman who died in 1998, halting 53 happy years together. Annie is predeceased by her parents, John and Kathleen (Sawula) Madziak and her siblings, Jennie (John) Cwik, Joe Madziak, Victoria (Reg) Bilik, and Stan Madziak, as well as many in the Gorman family. She will be mourned and greatly missed by her sister-in-law Ruth (Gorman) Madziak, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, almost all of whom communicated with her in her final days and minutes. Born on 'the farm' on May 18, 1922, Annie was a trailblazer her entire life, a hard worker, with a keen sense of fun, who was always up for an adventure. Some of her more memorable adventures included competitive 10 pin bowling, which took her all over North America, a train trip to New Brunswick with family, a trip to San Francisco for a great-nephew's wedding, further ventures to Ireland and Europe, a ride on the Niagara Skywheel ferris wheel on her 85th birthday, the maid of the mist on her 90th, and most exciting of all, a ride behind her nephew Mike, on his motorcycle, accompanied by his wife Marlene, and several of their biker friends, for her 95th birthday. Alas, the promise of a cavalcade of 100 motorcycles for her 100th birthday was not to be, but thinking about it brought her great joy. Other favourite pastimes included gardening, garage sales, gambling and playing euchre. Annie was an involved and beloved aunt and great aunt, sharing her childlike sense of wonder, as well as her sense of fun and adventure. And whenever one of us was going on a trip ourselves, her parting advice, along with spending money, was always, "don't do anything you can't come home and tell me about." She was an excellent problem solver and her home maintenance skills rivalled that of any man, still climbing a ladder to clean her own eaves troughs when she was in her 90s. Just days before she died, Annie proclaimed, "I love life and all the people in my life." Annie's family expresses their deepest gratitude to Dr. Debbie Norrie, whose care of Annie involved much laughter, as well as sage advice and extraordinary care; Drs. Inderdeep Dhaliwal, and Jim MacLean, whose care and compassion offered Annie tremendous comfort; the LHIN, especially Nina White, Jennifer Bourque, and Ann Schuur, for coordinating the support that makes dying at home possible; her visiting nurses, including Christine "Red", Raji, and on her last day, Jessie, who were so kind and gentle in their care, and the many PSWs from St. Elizabeth who saw to her personal care; Dr. Norrie's office staff; her favourite pharmacist Munir; and Rev. David Furlonger, who afforded her tired spirit great peace in her final days.
