Peacefully, at McGarrell Place, London, on Monday, April 17, 2017 Anna Karbownik in her 89th year. Beloved wife of the late Stefan Karbownik (1985). Dear mother of Richard Karbownik (Katherine) of Toronto and Steven Karbownik (Gail) of Central Hastings, Ontario. Predeceased by her son Leslie (2014), her two sisters and her two brothers of Poland. Also survived by her brother Stanley and several nieces and nephews in Poland. A fiercely independent person, Anna survived slave labour camps during WWII in Germany and emigrated to Canada in 1948. The following year she married Stefan whom she had met in Poland and who had also emigrated to Canada. Anna dedicated herself to her family as well as working tirelessly for several years for the London Polish Hall as a caterer. Anna made her home for the last 3 years at McGarrell Place, London where she devoted her time to nurturing other residents and leading the occasional cooking class for perogies and cabbage rolls. The family wishes to especially thank the staff and volunteers of Harris House at McGarrell Place and in particular Dr. Karen Lo for all their kindness and dedication to Anna. Visitors will be received in the O'Neil Funeral Home, 350 William Street, London on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be conducted in the Chapel of the Funeral Home on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment in St. Peter's Cemetery, London.
