DR. BARRY deVEBER M.D., FRCPC January 27, 1929 - February 28, 2019 Barrie, Dr. L.L. deVeber, passed away peacefully in his 90th year, surrounded by family and love. Predeceased by his wife and lifelong love, Iola Plaxton deVeber. Beloved father of George deVeber, Dr. Gabrielle deVeber (Dr. David Mikulis) of Oakville, Christine deVeber, Michele deVeber and Eileen deVeber all of London. Loving grandfather of Mikaela, Madeleine, Sandy, Nico, Nicole, Liah and Adam. Great-grandfather of Dezman and Damien. Predeceased by his son, LeBaron Charles "Barrie" (2002) and his brother, George Angus deVeber (2016). Also survived by loving in-laws and a host of loving nieces, nephews and dear friends. Barrie was born and raised in Toronto, graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1953 and fulfilled a long and illustrious career as a pediatric hematologist-oncologist. His innovations in cancer, intra-uterine Rh factor treatment and hemophilia affected the lives of many. He combined his medical expertise and moral integrity with universal kindness. He consistently put the needs of others ahead of his own. He was a pioneer in palliative care for children. His medical career spanned the globe, from Canada to England and Africa. Dr. deVeber initiated many humanitarian organizations including Camp Trillium, London Montessori school, deVeber Institute for Bioethics and Social Research, and Euthanasia Prevention Coalition. Barrie will be remembered for his enthusiasm, kindness, charm, sense of humor and gifted story-telling.
