At St. Mary's Marian Villa, London, Ontario, on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, Czeslawa (Sidwa) Makaran passed peacefully away in her 97th year. Daughter of Tomash and Stanislawa Sidwa, Czeslawa was a devoted wife of 37 years of the late Julian (1980); loving mother of Anne Marie Wasylko (Mykola); beloved grandmother of Lesya (Chesley), Andry, Stefan (Jessica) and Myron (Lena) and cherished great-grandmother of Julia, Aaron and Gregory; Sadie, Carmen and Evan; Ayah and Eve.
Born in June of 1924 in the town of Gostynin, Poland, Czeslawa was forcefully taken from her native homeland during WWll to work in Germany. There she met her future husband, Julian, who was also brought from Western Ukraine to work in Germany. As the War came to an end and with the birth of their daughter Anne Marie, they left the "displaced persons" camp and emigrated to Belgium in 1948. With Europe undergoing massive reconstruction, the future looked dim; Czeslawa, with her husband and daughter, again emigrated, this time to Canada in the winter of 1952, finally settling in London, Ontario, where she lived for almost 70 years. Czeslawa worked at McCormick Interbake until her retirement in 1989. She devoted her life after retiring to her four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A private family funeral service will be held on July 3rd at the O'Neil Funeral Home followed by interment in St. Peter's Cemetery, London, with Fr. Ihor Petryk officiating. Online condolences at www.oneilfuneralhome.ca
May Baba Czeslawa's memory be an eternal blessing.
