After a seven-year battle with multiple myeloma, Herb Van Waterschoot passed away peacefully on Monday, October 16, 2023, with his beloved wife, daughters, and nephew by his side. Herb was in his 77th year and lived a fulfilling and accomplished life, on his own terms until the very end.
Herb held many titles over his 76 years, most notably brother, husband, friend, and principal. He loved teaching, woodworking, long bike rides, and Saturday morning garage sales. He spent many days on the beaches in Port Stanley and Grand Bend, and later, in Paa Mul Mexico with his wife Mary. He cherished time with his daughters Katie and Lisa (Bryan) and loved to entertain family and friends on his sailboat.
Herb is survived by his siblings, Frank (Ingrid), Bernadette Missel (Greg), Ann (Dennis), Rick (Cheryl), Marilyn (Art), Teresa O’Conner, Frances Patrick, Douglas (Carol), Michael (Dina), and brother-in-law Larry Palmer. Herb is also survived by a very large and loving number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Herb is predeceased by his parents Arthur (2014) and Cornelia (1993) Van Waterschoot (Van As), and his sister Christine Palmer (2021).
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Lam, Dr. Gillis, and especially to the amazing nurses and staff of oncology at Victoria Hospital.
