It is with great sadness that our family announces the sad loss of our
mother, grandmother and sister, Irene Jack (nee: Matz) of Dorchester,
Ontario, in her 91st year. Irene passed away peacefully after a brief
illness on July 2, 2021, at the Alexandra Hospital in Ingersoll
Ontario. Beloved wife of the late Walter Jack. Dear mother of John,
Darlene, Paul (Debbie) and Denise. Much loved grandmother of Joseph
(Daria), Jason (Katy), Dana, Josh (Andrea), Deidra (Dave), Jenn and Kim
(Kellen), and great-grandmother of Dune, Jack, James, Zoey, Bella, and
Dylan. Irene also leaves behind her sister Sophie, her extended family
in Belleville, Ontario, her dear friend Barry, and her beloved kitty,
Twinkles.
Irene truly loved animals and nature. During her retirement
she thoroughly enjoyed tending to her many bird feeders, welcoming a
wonderful variety of wildlife to call her gardens their home. She would
always look forward to spending time on her deck overlooking the Thames
river, especially during the changing of the seasons. Spring was always
a favourite with the arrival of the migratory waterfowl and songbirds
that brought her so much joy. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting,
making, over the years, dozens of tiny toques and mittens which she
donated to the hospital's neonatal ward. She also crocheted and gifted
many small blankets to local veterinary hospitals to be used to keep
their little animal patients warm and cozy.
Her talents and kindness didn't stop there; she knitted many small 'bowl nests' that she donated
to Salthaven Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre. These nests
provided baby orphaned squirrels and birds a warm, safe bed while they
were being cared for at the Centre. Irene's other passion was cooking.
She enjoyed all types of cooking, but truly loved to prepare traditional
Polish delicacies, especially during the Christmas holidays. Christmas
meals always included several different varieties of Pierogi, fish,
Golabki (cabbage rolls), delicious homemade Cheesecake and all sorts of
cookies and other goodies. Holidays were always a time to feast and
spend time together as a family.? Irene will be fondly remembered and
dearly missed by many.
Our family would like to express our deepest
appreciation to Dr. Alex Bohdanowicz of Dorchester and the exceptional
nursing team at the Alexandra Hospital; your professionalism, kindness,
and excellent care will never be forgotten.
A private family service
will be held at St. Peter's cemetery in London. Those wishing to make
memorial donations in Irene's memory are asked to consider the Heart and
Stroke Foundation of Canada ( www.heartandstroke.ca) or an animal
welfare charity of your choosing. Online condolences are available by
