Joao Pinheiro Sousa

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joao "John" Pinheiro Sousa in his 89th year on Sunday, August 16, 2020.
Devoted and loving husband of Rosa (nee Mendes) of over 61 years.
Loving father of Carmen Pereira (Julio) and Jack Sousa (Laura)
Proud grandfather of Andrea Sousa, Michael Pereira (Michelle), Sarah Sousa and Ryan Pereira and great-grandfather of Neve Pereira.
Loved by his sister-in-laws and brother-in-law and many nieces, nephews and cousins here in Canada and in Portugal.
Predeceased by his parents Francisco and Emilia, sister Emilia (Jose') and brother Manuel.
John was born in Guimaraes in Northern Portugal in 1931. He immigrated to Canada in 1957 as a farm labourer. In 1959 he joined a large development and construction company and worked his way up from a labourer to a construction superintendent.

John was a founding member of the Portuguese Club of London. He was truly a gentleman that always treated everyone he met with respect and kindness. He always tried hard to make you smile and approached life with a great sense of optimism. He believed that your efforts and hard work were a reflection of your integrity.

All these things have been instilled in his children and grand-children and we are forever grateful to him.

In lieu of flowers, as expressions of sympathy and condolences, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
