At Parkwood Institute (Veteran's Care Program), London, on Thursday, June 13, 2019, John Stanley Rumas in his 99th year. Much loved husband of the late Lorraine Rumas (nee: Christie 1972). Dear uncle of Steve Rumas (Carolyn), Carol Martin (Dave), Mike Rumas (2018), Peter Rumas (Marlene), Lynn McCready (Bob) and Bob Rumas (Myrna). Proud great-uncle of Matthew Rumas (Tonya), Paula Echeverry (Leo), Jeff Rumas (Alyssa), Christopher Rumas (Erika), Ken Martin, Paul Martin, Brianne Rumas (Nadine), Morgan Rumas, Brian Rumas (Renee), Scott Rumas (Lindsay), Mark Rumas (Sofia), Fraser McCready, Carly McCready, Rachel Rumas, and James Rumas. Predeceased by his younger brothers, Sylvester (1992) and Matthew (2016). Born in Czarkowy, Poland, John immigrated to Canada as a young boy with his parents and two younger brothers. After World War II broke out, John enlisted in the Army in December 1941 and was assigned as a gunner to the 55th Field Battery (part of the 19th Canadian Army Field Regiment). John was part of the D-Day invasion of Normandy, landing at Juno Beach, and fought with his Unit in Europe until the end of the war. He was discharged from the army in March of 1946. After the war, John met and married his wife, Lorraine, in Canada and settled in Brampton, Ontario. They had no children but were very loving to all of their nieces and nephews. After Lorraine died, John continued to be the positive and loving uncle and person, that he always was to all, providing an example of what a man should be. He will be sorrowfully missed. Visitors will be received in the O'Neil Funeral Home, 350 William Street, London on Friday, June 28, 2019 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Peter's Cathedral Basilica ,196 Dufferin Ave. on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a private family interment in Brampton Cemetery, 10 Wilson Ave., Brampton, ON., where John will be buried with his wife. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph's Health Care Foundation, Veteran's Care Program, P.O. Box 5777 STN. B, London, ON N6A 4V2, would be appreciated. The family wishes to especially thank the nurses and staff at Parkwood Hospital (Veteran's Care Program) for the very attentive care and compassion that they provided to John.
