Kathleen Mary Mcmullen

1929 — January 1, 2020

Peacefully, on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, Kathryn McMullen in her 92nd year. Born in London, Ontario in 1929, Kathryn was the 3rd of 7 children in a lively Irish Canadian family. She emerged early on as an entertainer and social butterfly and was the proverbial class clown no matter the setting. At 16, Kathryn began working at the CN telegraph . She spent over a decade with the company and took pride in being a self-sufficient young woman who kept herself in a position to call her own shots. It was Gerry who finally won her heart, which was no easy task. Together they built a warm home and raised 3 successful children of whom she was immensely proud. Kathryn and Gerry celebrated 63 years of marriage and partnership this year. To her 6 grandchildren she was "Nanny" - a force of nature. Nanny was a mentor and confidante, but above all she was a true friend. They will always remember her humour, her open mind and her easy-going outlook on life. Kathryn was always of service to others. Whether it was time spent volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club or taking new Canadians under her wing, she would always make time for "errands of mercy" big and small. Known fondly to many in her church and community as the "Tart Lady", she was a proficient baker and thoroughly enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labour with many. A fierce card shark, Kathryn enjoyed many afternoons with her bridge friends and always kept the quarters coming in. Kathryn was a larger-than-life character with a quick wit. She took genuine interest in everyone she met and approached life with a positive attitude & generous nature. She will be deeply missed. Kathryn is survived by her husband Vincent Gerard (Gerry). Mother of Mark (2019) & Jo-Anne McMullen, Susan & David Clarke and Patricia McMullen. Cherished Nanny of Wesley, Sarah, Katelen (Brian), Alex (Lindsay), Michael and Charlotte. Sister of Michael Mahoney (1996), Margaret Webb (Ken, 2004), Ann Beaudry, Bud Mahoney (1985), Bill Mahoney (Jean) and Marietta Doyle (Don, 2019). Predeceased by her in-laws Edna & Robbie Robertson, Marjory & Wes Hosick, Les Brown, Rita & Tom Scanlon; nephews Matthew Mahoney and Joe Hosick; niece Kathy Brown; cherished friends Dick Petit, Ella Bratton and Cathy Crinklaw. Survived by many nieces, nephews and life-long friend Betty Dixon.
