It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Klemens (Klem) Macugajlo on May 15, 2009 in Grimsby, Ontario, who died peacefully in his sleep after his final battle with cancer.
He will be profoundly missed by his loving wife Karolina (Rudnicka) Macugajlo, and loving daughters Anna and Lydia. He is also survived by nieces Krystyna, Leila, Julia and nephews George, Roman, Stan, Leon and their children.
Born in Poland in 1920, he was imprisoned in Siberia for two years (1940-42), then served in the Polish Army during WWII, Third Division, Carpathian Brigade and valiantly took part in the battle of Monte Cassino (Italy, 1944) where he was wounded. He emigrated to Canada in 1947. Klem was a founding member of Kola Nr 2 SPK (Polish Combatants Association), served as president for seven terms, was also active in the Canadian and global SPK in various capacities and received numerous awards. He was proudest of Kawalerow Orderu Odrodzenia Polski, received in 1990. Klem was also a founding member of Our Lady of Czestochowa church, and instrumental in establishing London Polonia Towers where he served as president for two terms. He gave generously of his time and talents to those in need and will be missed by many.
Visitors will be received on Monday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the O’Neil Funeral Home, 350 William Street. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 419 Hill Street. Interment St. Peter’s Cemetery. Prayers Monday at 8:15 p.m.
