Maria Lia De Frias

“Her sparkling blue eyes and beautiful smile will forever be in our hearts.”

Maria Lia De Frias, aged 88, passed away on October 11, 2023, at Parkwood Hospital Palliative Care in London, Ontario, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 16, 1935, in Agua d’Alto, Villa Franca, Portugal, to her loving parents, Jose De Frias and Maria Do Espírito Santo Soares.

Maria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Victor De Frias and sister Honorata Rebelo (late Joe). She is survived by her children, Mario (Rosemary), Colleen (John), Lucy (Arthur) and Peter (Katie). 

Maria was a cherished grandmother of Stephanie (Joe), Brian (Hilary), Natasha (David), Branden, Michelle, Morgan, Sylvia and Austin, and a great-grandmother to Gemma, Gabriel, Ruby and Ellis.

Loving sister of Jose Frias (Isaura) and Catarina Vertentes (late Manuel).

She was a woman of profound grace, known for her unwavering love and devotion to her family. Maria's warmth, kindness, and nurturing spirit touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Maria's memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all who had the pleasure of her company. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a close-knit family who adored her.

Visitors will be received on Monday, October 16, 2023  from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. in the O’Neil Funeral Home, 350 William St., London.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Cross Church, 10 Elm Street at Hamilton Road, on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.  Interment in St. Peter’s Cemetery, London. 

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Parkwood Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, 550 Wellington Rd, London, ON,  N6C 0A7, in honour of Maria's life and in support of her passions.

Special thanks to Dr. Kim and nursing staff at Parkwood Palliative care, for the compassionate care of Maria in her final moments.
