Mary Leo Kirwin

Mary Leo (Sister) Kirwin 1922 - 2015 The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, London site, announce the death of our dear Sr. Mary Leo at our Care Centre, on Thursday, November 26, 2015. Mary Margaret was born in 1922 in Ingersoll, Ontario. Received into our religious Community in 1948. Mary was given the name Sr. Mary Leo. Lovingly remembered by all her CSJ Sisters, her brothers Leo Vincent (Audrey), James (Maureen), and her sister Theresa Bushell (Norman). Predeceased by her mother Mary Adelaide (Henesy), father Leo Joseph, sister Paula Stephenson (Robert), brothers Joseph, Patrick (Kathleen), Thomas (Alice), and Michael (Aline). Sister was a dedicated teacher with a particular gift for Home Economics. She served in Clinton, Ingersoll, Simcoe, London, and Windsor and in particular at Mount St. Joseph Academy where she was head of the Home Economics Department from 1969 - 1983. Appointed Superior of our Regional House in Edmonton from 1983 - 1991, Sister Mary Leo also assisted for some of that time, at our home for women in need, Elizabeth Place. Returning from the West, she took on congregational ministry, serving for seven years as our General Treasurer. Quilting, sewing, representing the community at the Board of the Red Cross, Sr. Mary Leo reached out to welcome all. The image "threads of love tenderly joining squares of memories", captured Sister's imagination and speaks of how she lived her life among us. We thank the staff of our Care Centre for their constant and attentive care. All services will be held at the Sisters' Residence, 485 Windermere Rd. Visitation Friday, November 27, from 2-4 and 7-8 with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 28, at 10:00 am, with Father Richard Charrette presiding.
