Michael Mychajlo Sawchuk
Peacefully, at home in London on Friday March 18, 2022, Michael ("Mike", "Mychajlo") Sawchuk, born April 4, 1926 near Kalush, Ukraine in his 96th year. Devoted husband and life partner for 67 years of the late Anastasia 'Nadia' Sawchuk. Beloved father of Eugene Sawchuk (Lillian), Terry Sawchuk (Anna) and Stephen Sawchuk (Linda). Loving grandfather of Krista (Ken), Natalia (Peter), Brett, Andrew, Michael (Julia), Larissa (Brian), Gena and Roman. Dear great-grandfather of Anastasia, John, Lily, Evelyn, Alexandra, Max, Hugo, Frederick and Margot. Also survived by family in the Ukraine and Chicago, IL. Visitors will be received in the O'Neil Funeral Home, 350 William Street, London on Friday from 4pm to 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church, 707 Nelson St., on Saturday at 10 am, followed by interment in St. Peter's Cemetery, London. Mike was very active in the London Ukrainian community. For twelve years he was the president of the London Ukrainian Centre. He actively served in numerous leadership roles with Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church, League of Ukrainian Canadians, Ukrainian Youth Association, Ukrainian Canadian Congress, and the Ivan Mazepa Ukrainian Golden Age Seniors Club. He was a tireless volunteer, visited the sick and was a Speaker/Master of Ceremonies at many community events.
Mike was able to live independently at his home until passing. He was supported by his family, friends and especially his special neighbours: Debra, George, Patricia, Ivo, Paul, Jim, Terri, Kathy , Tom, and Mykola. They made independent living possible and easier.
Mike was very concerned with his beloved Ukraine. He had generously supported his Ukrainian relatives. He also donated and collected funds from the community since 2014 to support the Ukrainian Army. In lieu of flowers, please follow his example to protect democracy by donating to the Canadian Red Cross – "Ukrainian Humanitarian Crisis Appeal"
