MATIAS - Mieczyslaw Michael Peacefully, on Sunday, January 3, 2010, in his 81st year, Mieczyslaw Michael Matias passed away in the home he built out of love for his family,with his loving wife Zofia (nee: Choja) of 53 years by his side. Devoted and loving father of Danuta Magier (Joe 2000), Krystyna Locke, and Tony and his wife Nicole Matias. Adored grandfather of Natalia, Robert, Paulina and Daniel Magier, Nicholas and Tyler Locke, and Alexandria, Tyler, Michael and David Matias. Beloved brother of Teresa Muzyka of England. Loved uncle of Teja Matias. Predeceased by his parents Malwina and Jozef, his brothers Boleslaw and Waclaw Matias, and his sisters Jadzia Beznosik of Belarus, and Jasia Bator of England. Michael is survived by many extended family members in Poland, England, Belarus and Canada. Michael was taken out of his beloved homeland of Poland with his family in 1940. He endured life in Siberia for 2 years. He was then evacuated to the Middle East where he spent 8 years in “Junaki”. He lived in England for 4 years before emmigrating to Canada in 1952. Michael was a 32 year employee of ABB (formerly Westinghouse). He was a respected and passionate member of SPK where he served 2 terms as President. He was proud of his Polish heritage and a proud Canadian. Michael would have wanted to thank Western Pro RESP for their excellent care over the years. Visitors will be received in the O'Neil Funeral Home, 350 William St., on Tuesday from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 419 Hill St., on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Interment St. Peters Cemetery. Prayers Tuesday evening at 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Lung Association or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
