Peacefully, at University Hospital, London, on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, Nicolas "Nick" Castelyns in his 87th year. Beloved husband of Lauretta. Dear father of Robin Wood (PJ) and the late Jim Archer. Loving grandfather of Katie Chapman, Robin Archer, Jamie Wood and Bridgette Smith. Great- grandfather of 13. Cherished brother of Franke Van Hesteren (Dianne). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Gerard Castelyns (1932), his stepfather Jan Van Hesteren (1986) and his mother Agnes Van Hesteren (1988). Nicolas immigrated to Saskatchewan, Canada from the Netherlands in 1951 with his parents and brother. He attended the Laval University in Quebec and received a Licence In Theology and was ordained to the Catholic Priesthood in 1958. He furthered his studies and received a PH. D. in Educational Psychology from Fordham University in New York and a Masters in Religious Education from Seattle University, Seattle Washington, USA. Nicolas served as a Roman Catholic Priest in the Diocese of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan from 1958 to 1991 and an assistant priest to two other parishes. He was a Teacher, Guidance Counselor, Director for the R.C. School Board in Prince Albert and a Chaplain for the Sisters of Presentation. In 1987 he became Director of the School of Lay Ministry in Prince Albert in addition to his other responsibilities. After working with Lauretta for four years who was the co-director of the school of Lay Ministry Nicolas obtained a dispensation from the priesthood and married Lauretta in 1991. Visitors will be received in the Holy Family Parish, 777 Valetta Street, London on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at which time the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, followed by interment in St. Peter's Cemetery, London. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of choice.
