Rev. Father Richard Paul Andrew Sims passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Bloomington Cove LTC in Stouffville ON, in his 93rd year. Retired Priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of London. Born January 5, 1918 in Ottawa, he was the son of the late Richard Sims and Clara d'Aoust. Father of Peter Sims of Stouffville, ON. Predeceased by his beloved wife Jean McIntyre (1981) and daughter-in-law Susan (2010). Following wartime service overseas, Flight Lieutenant Sims (RCAF) attended McGill University, graduating in 1950 with his PhD in Chemistry. He started work with the National Research Council, later moving to the Research Branch of Agriculture Canada. Dr. Sims spent many years there as founding Director of the Food Research Institute. Following his wife's passing he answered a long felt calling and was ordained a priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of London, ON. in 1985. He served as hospital chaplain and parish priest in various locations in south western ON until his second retirement at the age of 79. Long a resident of Chatham ON., Retirement Resort, he moved to Bloomington Cove LTC last year. Father Paul will be long remembered for his compassionate ability to bring his personal experience of family life to those in need. Visitors will be received in the ONeil Funeral Home, 350 William St., London, on Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., then on Monday to Lie in State in St. Patricks Church, (Dundas at Oakland) from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 at which time the Funeral Mass will be celebrated with Bishop Ronald P. Fabbro, C.S.B. as main celebrant. Interment St. Peters Cemetery, London. A prayer service will be held Sunday at 7:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
