On Dec. 22nd 2016, we saluted the passing of Roger James Bumstead originally of Winchester, Hampshire, England. More recently of Grand Bend and London, Ontario. He was born on December 8, 1940, just marking his 76th birthday. Survived by his wife, Mireille (nee Goutier) of 38 years, his daughter Jessica (Justin) and precious grandaughter. Predeceased by his brothers, David and Philip in England and his sister Jean Barrow in London, Ontario. Leaving many relatives in England and the London, Ontario area. He will be sadly missed by them all. Roger had a strong sense of duty embellished in the years spent with the British Royal Navy and Merchant Marines. Upon settling in London Ontario he embarked on a career with the London Police Service which took him through 35 years of a life he described as " a new adventure everyday." Roger was a wonderful man with a sense of humour, dedication to his family and desire to "help" in the community. His role as a volunteer assisted many causes including the Cancer Society, One Care Programs in Grand Bend and finally the Alzheimer Society. His modesty and selflessness in the end of his life requested his body be donated to science to assist in the investigation of Alzheimer's Disease and declining a funeral. He would be proud of the donations made in his name to the McCormick Home where he received excellent care, the Alzheimer Society of Huron County where we benefitted from education and support, Parkwood Hospital or One Care in Grand Bend.
