In his 86th year, Roman passed away peacefully with his family present, on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at University Hospital, London, Ontario. Born in the historic city of Belz in Ukraine, Roman survived the displacement of populations that occurred during and following World War II in Europe, and immigrated to Canada in 1947. Roman retired from Firestone Steel Canada (now Accuride) in 1988. Roman will be missed but not forgotten. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Kataryna, his children Peter Sochan (Anne), Irene Parsons (Brian), Olga Filipowich (Peter), and his sister Ira in Ukraine. Roman was a loving and doting Dido to his grandchildren Larissa, Magdalena, Andrij, Christina, Philip, Kataryna and Bohdan. He will also be missed by his sister-in-law Helena Pazcko. Roman is predeceased by his brother Marian in Ukraine. Visitors will be received in the O’Neil Funeral Home, 350 William St. on Monday, January 26, from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. with Panahyda (prayers) at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church, 707 Nelson St., on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Entombment St. Peter’s Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Dr. Lyons (St. Joseph’s Family Clinic) and all the staff of the 7th floor, University Hospital, for the kindness and excellent care they provided to Roman and all those who visited him in his final days.
