It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of our beloved mother Ruth Margaret Madziak (nee: Gorman) on April 26, 2023, at Victoria Hospital. She died peacefully, surrounded by her family and the love of those who couldn’t be there. Forever lovingly remembered by her children: Mary Ellen Melanson, Joe (Cathy) Madziak, Bob (Cathy) Madziak, Anne Marie (Janice) Madziak, and Peter (Corrie) Madziak; her grandchildren: Erin Davidson, Kevin Melanson, Paul (Amelia), Michelle (Ross), Katie, Rebecca (Maddy), Vicki, Ian and Eric Madziak, and newly welcomed granddaughters, Madeline and Olivia Fox; her great grandchildren: Ryan, Roger, Willow and Minnie; and Barry Melanson and Anne Phillips, both of whom she adored. Also beloved by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and countless friends from everywhere she went. She will be dearly missed by residents and staff of Maple View Terrace Retirement Home. Predeceased by her loving husband, Stanley (2004), her parents, Robert (1960) and Frances (1976) Gorman, many beloved members of the Gorman and Madziak clans, and well-loved friends. For nearly 97 years, Ruth was strong, kind, generous, welcoming, curious, open-minded, fun-loving, feisty and fiercely independent. Beyond family and friends, her loves included: babies, dogs, talking on the phone, Ireland, the Y & R, crosswords and word jumbles, walking, bowling, ice cream, storytelling, Bingo, Racko, Euchre, the slots, grilled cheese sandwiches with bacon, and sneaking too many treats to her growing clan of adoring dogs. She was deeply religious and believed in the power of prayer. She and Dad taught us that we have an obligation to provide for and befriend those less fortunate than ourselves. The world was made better by her compassion, her humour and her love. The family will receive visitors at O’Neil Funeral Home, 350 William Street from 2:00 – 6:00 pm on Monday, May 1, 2023. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Mary Immaculate Church, 1980 Trafalgar Street at 10:30 am on Tuesday, May 2, followed by interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery, London. Please visit the live stream of the funeral if you can not attend https://www.youtube.com/c/MaryImmaculateParish In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Mary Immaculate St. Vincent de Paul, the Sisters of St. Joseph for St. Joe’s Café, the London Humane Society or to a charity of your choice.
