McAULEY, Sister Ruth St. JohnThe Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, London neighbourhood, announce the death of our dear Sr. St. John at our Care Centre, September 16, 2016. Born in 1919 in Woodstock, Ruth McAuley was received into our religious Community in 1938. Sister is lovingly remembered by all her CSJ Sisters, and her good friend Claire Bondy. Predeceased by her mother Mary Iola Duffy, father John McAuley, brothers John, James, Neil and sister Margaret Quick. During her first years of ministry, Sister St. John taught in elementary and high schools in London, Delhi, Windsor, LaSalette and Sarnia. From 1979 - 1990 she served as the Director of the Christian Renewal Centre in Sarnia and for five of those years lectured at the Faculty of Education, McGill University, Montreal during Summer Session. Sister loved engaging with her students, exploring spirituality and the nature of things. She made many good friends among them and particularly appreciated the opportunity to teach Pastoral Counselling at St. Peter's Seminary. With strong counselling skills, Sister St. John enjoyed conversations about quality of life, assertiveness, death and dying, family fragmentation, retirement and stress. A woman deeply engaged in life, her spirit and stories will live on in our Congregation. All services will be held at the Sisters' Residence, 485 Windermere Rd., London, with visitation on Monday, September 19, from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, September 20, 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Frank Murphy presiding. Interment to follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. (O'Neil Funeral Home: 519-432-7136)
