The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, London neighbourhood, announce the death of our dear Sr. Mary Electa Bondy in our Care Centre, February 25, 2015. Born in 1928 in Windsor, she was proudly named Rita Catherine by her parents. In 1949 Sister was received into our religious Community. She is lovingly remembered by all her CSJ Sisters, her step-brothers Leo Duchaine (Jan) and Rex Duchaine (Rose). Predeceased by her mother Kathleen (Walsh), and father William Bondy.
Sister taught elementary children in London and Delhi schools, taking on the role of principal until 1964. A desire to train in Social Work led her to studies in Ottawa, followed by a brief position with Madame Vanier Children's Services in London. In 1967 she was invited to become Dean of Residents while teaching at Mount St. Joseph Academy in London. Returning to Social Work In 1972 she ministered for 21 years at St. Joseph's Hospital, Chatham. Retiring to Mount St. Joseph she cared for the well-being of our senior Sisters in Ignatia Hall before becoming a resident herself. Up to the last few weeks, Sister could be seen with hymnbook in hand, participating at the daily liturgy with her faithful companions.
We thank the staff of our Care Centre for their constant and attentive care.
All services will be held at the Sisters Residence, 485 Windermere Rd.
