The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, London Neighbourhood, announce the death of our dear Sister Mary Jane Doyle, at the Residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph at 485 Windermere Road in London. Sister died on Friday, February 21, 2020, accompanied on the last part of her journey by the Sisters, along with her niece, Angela Lloyd, and the Care Centre Staff.
Mary Theresa Doyle was born in Chatham in 1917 and joined the Community of the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1951. She is remembered with affection by all her CSJ Sisters as well as her sister, Mary Lou Howe, sister-in-law, Edna, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her mother, Teresa (O'Rourke), father, Francis, sisters Agnes (Alec) Mason, Sister Mary Berchmans (RPB), Bernadine (Leo)Tremblay and brothers, Francis (Norma), Robert (Agnes), Patrick (Margaret), Hubert, and Edward (Rosemary) and brother-in law, Jack Howe.
Sister Mary Jane received her R.N. in 1940 and remained very dedicated to her calling as a nurse, serving in hospitals in London, Sarnia, Chatham and Galahad, Alberta, as well as having charge of the Infirmary at Mount St. Joseph. After retiring from nursing, she was a volunteer with the Coronary Bypass group in Chatham, and from 1985-1996, lived and worked in our House for Women in Transition in London.
Sr. Mary Jane was best known for her dry wit and keen sense of humour, finding a delightful and very insightful response to almost any situation. She had a very caring personality, wrapped in a no-fuss kind of approach to life and its issues. She lived her life inspired by a deep faith and devotion, and on her deathbed breathed, "O Lord, come and hold me."
All services will be held at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 485 Windermere Road.
Visitation will be on Monday, February 24, 2:30 – 4:00 and 7:00 - 8:00 with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 25 at 11:00 am, with Father Matthew Sobierajski CSMA presiding, followed by interment in St. Peter's Cemetery. (O'Neil Funeral Home, London 519 - 432 - 7136)
