William Gibson Shipman

Peacefully at Parkwood Hospital, London, Ontario on Thursday, December 11, 2014, Dr. William Shipman, PhD, in his 88th year. He is survived by his sister Ruth Morawetz, of Toronto; his daughter, Stephanie Shipman (Walter Travers), of Silver Spring, MD; his son, Geoffrey Shipman (Colleen), of Moorestown, NJ; grandson, Geoffrey Shipman II; and former wife, Virginia Shipman, of Albuquerque, NM. Predeceased by his wife Joan Rogers Shipman (2012). Raised in Toronto and London, Bill obtained degrees from the University of Western Ontario and the Pennsylvania State University. He researched the physical reactions to stress and other emotions leading to numerous presentations and publications and had a clinical psychology practice in Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Miami (OH), before returning to London, where he had a clinical practice and consulted with the juvenile court. Into his eighties, Bill was an avid canoe paddler, gardener, and a regular member of the choir of Metropolitan United Church with his wife Joan. A Memorial Service will be held in the O'Neil Funeral Home, 350 William Street, London, Ontario on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
